Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars. This DWM Inter-War Luger Pistol was made for export from Germany, quite likely to the United States. It was made of existing parts that would have gone into making a military sidearm during WWI had the war continued. DWM, in order to stay alive in some of the toughest economic conditions following the war, built pistols using new old stock and new stock parts to sell commercially both inside and outside Germany. This pistol features a military style number on the barrel and frame. The rest of the numbering is of the commercial style, which is to say discrete. Commercial German proof marks “Crown/N” are found throughout. “GERMANY” is stamped on the frame, which is another indicator that this was exported to the US. It was chambered for the original “Luger” cartridge, the .30 Luger or 7.65x21mm Parabellum, which is a great cartridge still available today. The overall condition is fine. The blue finish is 90%. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. It is equipped with a military issue magazine. The grips are in great shape. The bore is clean with strong rifling. The action is excellent. Here is a very nice example of the pistol that DWM used to keep afloat between the World Wars! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 3-5/8 inches.
