Description:
The Interarms Mark X is one of the most underappreciated Mauser 98-style rifles ever made. The Mark X was built originally built in Manchester, England with production later switching to Yugoslavia. This example is one of the Yugoslavian rifles and is marked as such on the left side of the receiver, just in front of the bolt release. A customized rifle, this Mark X is chambered for the 7x57 Mauser Ackley Improved round. This is a wildcat round based on the work of famed gunsmith and author P.O. Ackley. Like Ackley’s other cartridges, the 7x57 Improved has a 40-degree shoulder. The advantage of Ackley’s cartridges is that factory standard ammo, in this case a regular 7x57 round, can be fired in the rifle and the case will fire-form itself to the newer dimension, creating a 7x57 Improved case that can be reloaded as such. This allows the shooter to use two different but similar enough cartridges in the same rifle, which can be very useful when loads for the wildcat are not available. The Ackley Improved cartridges are also noted for their higher performance over the standard factory loads. The rifle is equipped with a Redfield Pursuit rifle 3-9x40mm scope which features illumination. The rifle is in rather good shape and retains a great deal of the original bluing. The barrel is an Apex heavy-type with a length of 26 inches. The diameter of the barrel at the muzzle is 0.625 inches. The barrel’s finish is a distinct matte grey color. There are some spots of micro pitting near the muzzle and some short streaks of finish loss as well. There is also some finish loss near the receiver end of the barrel as well. The bore is in superb shape and the rifle will be very accurate. The stock is a Monte Carlo type with a tall cheek pad and tall pistol grip. The eye relief for the scope combined with where the shooter places their cheek on the pad means that the rear tip of the bolt will just barely touch the shooter’s cheek when the bolt is cycled. The scope has some light scratches on the body but the view through the lenses is excellent. The stock is in good shape with only minor handling marks. Sling swivels and a Redfield leather sling are attached. Overall, the rifle is a little on the heavy side. It is definitely a marksman’s rifle.
