Offered from my personal collection is a beautiful custom Pre-1964 M-70 Winchester (circa 1951) in the ever popular .270 Win caliber that was featured in the Custom Corner section of the May 2001 issue of Rifle magazine. This rifle was built by Larry Brace, of Eugene Oregon, who fabricated the classic stock from a beautifuly figured piece of English walnut. Checkering is 24 lines per inch with ribbbons and border. Forend is capped in ebony wood. The cheekpiece has a full shadow line. The action was surface ground and the interior was polished for smooth operation. A new classic bolt handle was installed and fully checkered with 4 panels. The bolt release was built up and checkered. The original floorplate was replaced with a one piece, steel, straddle style floorplate with bow release. The scope bases were custom made by Larry Brace. The rings are Kimber style 30mm. Larry recontoured the barrel sight boss to streamline the profile and recrowned the barrel with an 11 degree target crown.
The excellent game scene engraving and extensive gold inlays were done by Robert Evans of Oregon City, OR. Member and past President of the Firearms Engravers Guild of America (FEGA). Each gold dot is dovetailed into the receiver and set with a concave punch. This rifle has not been shot since its completion and remains in new condition.
