Description:
***   SOLD   ***   REDUCED   ***   Great handling and attractive sidelock non-ejector by the prestigious provincial maker George Gibbs. Justly famous for his high quality rifles the firm is still in business today and makes a fine shotgun in addition to great rifles.   ***   This 12 bore Gibbs, no. C479 was made circa 1902, and was recently superbly refurbished with great bluing, hand oil finished on a nicely figured European walnut stock and forearm with crisp engraving, and sharp Best engraving. At 6lb 9oz this is an upland gunner’s dream and one of the greater handling guns we’ve seen in a while.   ***   The 28” replacement nitro steel barrels by the maker have been professionally reblued with a deep lustrous finish. They are topped by a swamped rib and a brass front bead. They are nitro proofed for 2-1/2” shotshells but like a lot of English guns found in the US have been lengthened to 2-3/4”. The right barrel is inscribed “George Gibbs Ltd” which leads me to think that the gun was refurbished recently by the maker. The left barrel is inscribed “3 & 4 Perry Road. Park Row. Bristol”. The bluing does have a few very minor marks from normal usage. The right barrel is bored 0.737 with a constriction of 0.012 for Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.025. The left barrel is bored 0.732 and has a constriction of 0.018 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028.   ***   The nicely figured stock has recently been refinished and the checkering refreshed. It has a handsome new pebble grained leather recoil pad. There are a few minor handling marks on an otherwise great finish. Stock dimensions are 15-3/8” including the 1-1/8” leather recoil pad by 1-1/2” by 2-1/4”. Slightly cast off for the righthanded shooter.   ***   This handsome gun is in great shape mechanically and cosmetically. It has that “special something” in terms of handling that really catches my attention. It’s a special gun at a special price and deserves your close attention.   ***   I am an FFL and will need a signed copy of your dealer’s license. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense.
