Engraved BRITISH Antique .32 Cal. BAR HAMMER Percussion PEPPERBOX Revolver
1840s 6-Shot Self Defense Revolver
Here we present an antique British Percussion Pepperbox Revolver, made circa 1840 in Great Britain. This pepperbox features 6 shots of .32 caliber ball. It is quite similar to the American Ethan Allen pepperbox in both form and function. It was meant to be worn on a belt for self-defense. The mechanism is double action only with a bar-shaped hammer on top. The flutes on the barrel cluster each have a British firing proof mark. The frame, hammer, trigger guard, and pommel are engraved. In addition to containing more than one or two shots ready to fire (single and double barrel pistols were still the rule rather than the exception in this day) these revolvers did not look entirely like pistols!
The overall condition is good. The action functions well. The bores are in good shape. The checkering on the grips remain in good shape with slight handling wear. The engravings look great. Here is solid pepper box to collect and display!
