Description:
From a mid-west sale, a 1896 Enfield LE1, Lee Metford 303 cal. sporterized magazine rifle. The wood is excellent with no cracks or chips, but several scratches and dings, however, the 100+ year old stock, does not appear to have ever been sanded or refinished and the military stamps and cartouches are still visible (see photos). The metal has never been refinished and is in remarkably original condition with only a few spots of minor wear (see photos). I am not an expert and know very little about this model rifle, however, at the sale they said the NZ stamps on the receiver and butt plate stood for New Zealand. They said it had the correct era magazine and had been sporteized
by shortening and crowning the barrel, reducing the size of the forend, and by removing the magazine cut off lever and rear volly sight (see photos).
