Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: Merrill Carbine first type produced by the H. Merrill in Baltimore, Maryland. Is a .54 caliber breach loading, single shot rifle with a 22 inch long, round barrel supported by one brass band. Loading of the carbine requires cocking the hammer and pulling back on the hinge plate on the top of the rifle. The first type had a nearly flush plate with flip adjustable rear sight and a patch patch box on the butt stock. While the second had a sturdier latch mechanism, fixed rear sight and no longer had the patch box. These carbines were commonly seen in the hands of Union cavalry regiments. This Merrill Carbine is in excellent condition for its age. The action still functions smoothly and locks tightly. The hammer cocks without issues. The bore is bright but does show some very light pitting (common for vintage blackpowder weapons). The chamber is clean and the rifling is still sharp and clearly visible. The lock matches the breach number making this a numbers matching carbine. This is an excellent early carbine and would be perfect in a Civil War weapons collection.
