Description:
***   SOLD   ***   H. Pieper was a Belgian gunmaker justly known for its high quality shotguns and this 16 gauge hammergun proves the point. While adorned with simple border engraving it has vivid case coloring, highly figured laminated steel barrels, rebounding locks, low hammers which sit below the shooter’s line of sight when cocked. Both locks are inscribed “H. Pieper” Serial number 27775 indicates the gun was made prior to 1899 which classifies it as an antique. It weighs 6lb 9oz making it an ideal weight for the upland gunner to carry afield.   ***   The 28” laminated steel barrels are highly figured, have shiny bores, and are topped by a raised crosshatched rib. It is chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells and has black powder proofs. The rib is inscribed “H. Pieper Patented April 23, 1881”. It has extractors. The right barrel is bored 0.688 with a constriction of 0.005 for Light Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.036. The left barrel is bored 0.683 and has a constriction of 0.015 for Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.033.   ***   The stock has a Prince of Wales grip and a splinter forearm. They are both made of nicely figured straight grained European walnut. The flat top checkering shows a little wear. There are a few handling marks from normal usage and a coat of oil would brighten the finish up.   ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense.
