Description:
Dark gray soapstone carving of a cow walrus and calf with the cow depicted resting, facing sideways, and the calf propped on its belly facing the opposite direction. This naturalistic carving shows the close physical bond and tender interaction between a mother and her calf. It also suggests the protective and nurturing role of the female walrus. Carved by Daniel Quemaluk. Inscribed on base "A.F" scratched above name. 7 x 5 3/8", 16.6cm. 1982
