Description:
New Mexican folk art carving a monk with cross by Leo G. Salazar (1933 - 1991). Dated 1980 and signed on bottom. Leo was a self taught artist working from a studio on Taos. He was featured in a book "Tradiciones Nuevo Mexicanas." Salazar apprenticed under Patrocino Barela and his work is found in churches throughout Mexico. Also included in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, Nevatican, Berlin Museum of International Folk Art and the Milicent Rogers Museum. Collectible as New Mexico Folk Art. 36"H x 8"W x 9"D
