Description:
#4994 Colt 1878 D/A 7-1/2”x44WCF with Ex.Fine++ bore (about a 9 on a scale of 10) and Excellent smooth action both on S/A and D/A modes, 33XXX serial range and thus being made in 1895. Original factory blue is about 80-90% coverage overall with the density varying from 40% on the cylinder to 95% on the frame and 99% on the barrel; the remainder being smooth plumming blue-grey metal with no pitting whatsoever. What blue is missing is mainly flaked off; the only real wear being on the back strap and the cylinder due to the old practice of cleaning by boiling the cylinder to remove the powder residue build-up and which likely caused the blue to flake off prematurely. The “CFSS” roll-die barrel panel is crisp and sharp, as is the addess and serial number. The original hard rubber grips are near excellent with almost no wear. (see photos). The very often missing lanyard ring is also intact. A very, VERY decent, showy, big frame double action Colt in Antique Excellent condition and becoming almost non-existant for sale at any but the largest gun shows. $2895
