THE FIRST P.38 WERE DEVELOPED AND THE FIRST MILITARY 480 SECRET CODE PRODUCED BY WALTHER IN 1940. SINCE THEN DURING THE TIME NAZI'S WERE GETTING MORE INVOLVED INTO THE BRUTAL WAR WITH MANY OTHER COUNTRIES THEY NEEDED MUCH MORE GUNS AND THEN MANY OTHERS GUN FACTORIES WERE INVOLVED IN PRODUCTION OF P.38 PISTOLS. IN 1942 MAUSER FACTORY STARTED P.38 PRODUCTION WITH "byf" SECRET CODE, AND  BY 1944 THERE WAS SPREEWERK P.38 PRODUCED WITH SECRET CODE "cyq" ON THE SLIDE, AND"cvq" STAMP, WHICH WAS ATTRIBUTED TO A BROKEN DIE. BEGINING TO APPEAR DURING THE LATER PART OF THE PRODUCTION RUN, DULL MILITARY FINISH, EAGLE OVER "88" (E/88)ACCEPTANCE, VARIATION TYPICALLY EXHIBITS ROUGH MACHINING WITH VISIBLE CIRCULAR MILLING MARKS, SERIAL RANGE 1-APPROXIMATELY 10,000z, NO YEAR DATES WERE USED BY SPREEWERK. THIS PISTOL WAS PRODUCE IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS OF THE WAR IN 1945. IT IS A HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE END OF THE WAR NAZI'S PRODUCTION PISTOL WITH E/88 STAMPED ON THE SPINE ORIGINAL MAGAZINE.
