Description:
This is a beautiful all-original example of the Remington New Model Pocket Revolver, 3rd Type, manufactured in the late 1860's.  This little handsome revolver was offered as a percussion revolver from 1865 until 1873, then subsequent production was produced as a metallic cartridge conversion.  This "3rd Type" New Model Pocket Revolver is a .31 caliber percussion model and features a spectacular factory high-gloss blue finish, a color case-hardened hammer, a silver-plated trigger sheath, a 5-shot round cylinder, a 3" inch octagon barrel, and smooth American Walnut grips.  This pistol is completely original and all of the serial numbered match including the barrel, frame, and grips.  As you can see from the pictures there is a great deal of the original bright gloss blue finish left, rating approximately 70%.  Most of the finish loss is located on the left side of the gun on the barrel and frame extension, and two spots on the cylinder (likely the two exposed sides when stored).  The case coloring on the hammer is superb, rating 98% with lots of bright color showing all over the hammer.  The silver plating on the trigger sheath is also in excellent condition, rating 97% with only a touch of wear.  All of the factory stampings are crisp and clear.  The bore in this Remington looks BRAND NEW!  It is mirror-bright and perfect with sharp rifling throughout.  The 5 chambers in the cylinder are equally as pristine and free from imperfections.  While there is obviously no way to know for sure, there is certainly a very strong possibility that this Remington is unfired given the combined condition of the bore, cylinder bores, nipples, forcing cone, and hammer face.   The original grips on this New Model Pocket are in excellent condition overall.  The original varnish is fully intact, and with the exception of a tiny little chip on the left rear grip, both grip panels are free from any damage or visible wear.  Both grips are perfectly fit to the gun and tight to the metal with no wiggle or play in them.  The grips are both numbered to match the gun on the reverse with "302" written in pencil, correct for factory serializing.  The mechanics of this Remington are perfect in every way.  The action is smooth, precise, and perfectly "in time", and the controls all function 100% like-new.  This Remington would shot just as reliably and accurately today as the day it left the factory over 150 years ago.  This is truly an exceptional antique Remington New Model Pocket Revolver, and would be a superb addition to any antique arms collection.
