The Swedish M38 rifle was adopted in 1938 as part of a worldwide trend towards service rifles that were shorter in overall length than a standard infantry rifle, but longer than a cavalry carbine. Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori converted 55,000 Model 96 long rifles to M38 short rifles from 1938–1940. These are easy to spot as they still retained the straight bolt handles of the original M96. Additionally, Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB produced 88,000 new M38 short rifles between 1942 and 1944 when production stopped with the mass adoption of the AG42B semi-auto rifle. This is one of the new produced M38 short rifles manufactured by Husqvarna. It is in excellent condition with a fantastic bore. The rifle is all matching and the Swedish Military bore condition disk indicates this rifle gauges 6.51mm with a slight frosting in the grooves. This slight frosting in the grooves is common on Swedish military rifles as they usually only sold rifles to the surplus market when they reached this condition, while better condition bores remained in their version of the U.S. CMP program. The bolt functions beautifully and the finish is excellent quality. The stock shows usual wear as seen on most surplus weapons, but is free of any major damage such as cracks or chips. If your looking for an uncommon Swedish military service rifle to add to a collection or would like an exceptional rifle for hunting. This Swedish M38 would be an excellent choice.
