Description:
From a mid-west sale, a very nice antique percussion Rifle/Shotgun side by side combination gun with patch box. The 32 1/2" round barrels are 41 caliber rifled and 40 caliber smooth bore with a raised solid rib. The bores appear dark (I have not cleaned this gun). The barrels are topped with an adjustable rear and a post front sight (see photos). The wood stock is in good condition with no chips but has a small age crack behind the lock and patch box and several dents and dings (see photos). The stock has a German Silver entrance thimble and wedge plates with iron barrel thimbles. Brass crescent butt plate, trigger guard and two piece patch box (see photos). The gun is 49" overall with 32 1/2" barrels. One trigger works both hammers independently. The locks have strong springs for both hammers and functions as it should. The back action lock plates are unmarked and the top of the barrel rib is marked "GW BOWLBY / PONTIAC." At the sale they said G W BOWLBY was a gunsmith who practiced in Pontiac Michigan from 1826 to 1863. The metal has a very nice brown patina with some spotting on the barrels(see photos). The hickory wood ram rod is plain and has no tips (see photos).
