Description:
#3864 Starr D/A 1858 Army, 44-percussion with Fine+ to Exc bore and fine tight action. Matching serial numbers and also has the so-called “anchor” proof mark on the front of the frame that many military collectors believe that this marking designates Civil War naval usage, but some others (me included) think that it’s simply a JG inspector stamp. This was a better-than-average revolver before it was unfotunately involved in the 2018 notorious California “Camp Fire” (the worst disaster in California history other than the 1906 earthquake) and the grips got somewhat charred. It did get hot enough that most of the original blue finish flaked away, however, and the grips were just charred but not burned off. The cartouches are still quite visible, the springs are still good, and the metal is still sharp with good markings and almost no pitting. It’s still a very collectable Civil War revolver and is worthy of a modest collection of CW revolvers. VG as described. $995
