Description:
French Gras M1866-74 M80 Carbine 11mm Chassepot Bolt Action Single Shot Rifle. This rifle is a shorter, full-stock variant of the French Gras M1866-74 rifle, often referred to as a Cavalry or Artillery model. This rifle was most likely built in St. Etienne, and converted in Chattelerault. The rifle is built on the Chassepot single-shot bolt action platform, and fired an 11mm black powder cartridge. The rifle has some minor blemishes, including some small wood mite holes in areas of the stock, dents and scratches, and finish loss. The bolt face has some minor deformations as well. The rifle is fitted with brass barrel bands, trigger guard and buttplate. The rifle appears to be missing its extractors, its original ramrod, and the bore has some minor wear and very light pitting, as seen in the photos. The rifle is a great candidate for restoration, or to add to a French military arms collection. Please refer to the photos to further assess the condition of the rifle. This specific gun is being sold AS IS.
