#221277, Sterling Davenport from Tucson, Ariz., A 7 x 57 Mauser Total Custom on a Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 Action, The action was made in 1952, 22" barrel without open sights, The barrel profile is that of a Pre-64 Featherweight by Winchester, 2 piece scope bases with quick detachable lever 30mm rings, Mounted with a Schmidt & Bender 1.5 - 6 x42 with their non-illuminated A9 duplex reticle with a circle, Model 70 trigger, A 3-position Model 70 wing safety, Two panel teardrop bolt knob checkering, Jeweled bolt and follower, Model 70 bottom metal, A Davenport Custom Classic style stock, Full wrap around Fleur-De-Lis checkering, Shadowline cheekpiece, Sling eyes on the stock, Checkered steel grip cap, 13 3/4" LOP over a Biesen checkered steel buttplate, 8 lbs. 11 oz., An excellent piece of English Walnut with excellent dark color and black/brown contrast, The original blue remains at 99%, The original stock finish at 99%, The checkering is at 100%, The bore is excellent plus. Sterling Davenport started as a custom gunmaker in 1975 and attended the Colorado School of Trades in Denver. Sterling did it all, the stock, checkering, metal and complete finish. At one time he did the U. S. stock work for Rigby. Later Sterling Davenport III, his son, built custom rifles under the tutelage of his father. Everything I have seen from Sterling is top drawer and it is pure American Classic in shape, function and style.
