Description:
Serial #12001, .38 CF, 5 inch octagon barrel with a very good bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is an interesting revolver that was originally chambered in .38 RF, but was converted to .38 CF at some point. The barrel is engraved along the top flat: “COGSWELL & HARRISON. STRAND. LONDON.", and retains about 80-85% of the original bright blue, with silvering along the edges, and spots of mild freckling throughout. The cylinder has a similar amount of blue remaining, and the frame has a mostly plum-brown patina with traces of original finish remaining. The hammer has a freckled, bright gray patina, and the nose of the firing pin has been ground flush with the frame. The checkered walnut grip is in fine shape with some minor handling marks and flattening of the points, and the action lock-up is tight and functions well. This very revolver is illustrated and described on pgs. 74 and 75 of “Tranter Cartridge Fireams" by Black, Guerin & Michaud (2007), and rates about fine overall. Antique
