Circa early 19th Century 3rd Model Brown Bess was the primary British infantry musket during the Napoleonic Wars. The 39" round .75 caliber barrel has a very good smooth bore. Metal is very good overall with an even smooth blue/ brown patina. The wood, with added finish, is very good. Has old small chips at the top of the lock and rear of the top tang. Barrel has the expected military proof marks, and the lock has the crown/ GR with the Crown/ broad arrow to the right and Tower to the rear of the hammer. Stock has “WG" and an inspection stamp on the left flat opposite the lock. Left-side of the butt stock has the broad arrow/ Bo issue stamp and “T8994" stamped just above the butt plate. There are two inspection stamps just to the rear of the lower tang. “87" is stamped midway between the lower tang and butt plate. The sling swivels and cleaning rod are present. The action functions correctly. This is a very nice British military 3rd Model Brown Bess. SOLD Antique: Yes |
