Description:
The first model half stock sporting rifle makes this rifle with serial # 24 ( one of of the first 300 made out of a total of only 1000 produced) the rarest of the rare.manufactured in 1857. This rifle is absent from many noted museums including the NRA which has the second full stock model only.This rifle enjoyed a custom status with the elite having a delicate hunting seen along with a highly defined COLT SPORTMAN and serial number engraved on the cylinder including the colt engravers name.
Remarkably, careful examination suggests that this 36 cal. rile has never been fired. There is no evidence of power burn any where and the bore shows as new without a scratch in it. The mechanics work as new. Some of the bluing is gone on the receiver. The barrel ihas a matte finish as was manufactured. The walnut stock is in great condition without any cracks. The oiler is gone and there is a screw hole onthe top tang to reeive a sighting tube that Colt offered at the time.
Being the rarest of the 1855 Colt revolving rifles this is certainly a desired addition to any collection with its unique design as part of Colts history.
As a 83 year old private collector it is time to sell my antique guns so others may enjoy them. This is one I hate to see go.
