Description:
Serial #678, .577/.450 Martini-Henry, 34 1/8" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves. This is a long rifle, left-hand lock variant (dated 1877) that has retained about 50-60% of the original blue on the barrel, blending smoothly with a mellow plum-brown patina on the balance. The frame has a mottled, pewter gray patina, and the “N.A.&A. Co. Ld./1877", and “HENRY'S/PATENT" frame markings are still crisp and clear. The walnut forend and buttstock have scattered small handling marks and minor surface blemishes in the original oil finish, as well as some dark spots of pitting on the barrel bands. The large “NSW", “083", and “(arrow)/S/(arrow)" stamps, and the 1877 dated Birmingham cartouche are still crisp and clear on the right side of the buttstock. The action is still tight and fully functional, and an original ramrod that matches the condition of the rifle is included. Several variants of this rifle were used by New South Wales; this is the long version chambered in .577/.450 (rifles made prior to 1877 were chambered in .450 3 1/4" and converted to the Martini-Henry round later) and is in very good, original condition.
