Description:
H.E. LEMAN, LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA PERCUSSION LONGRIFLE CA. 1840. 54” o/a with 39” octagon .50 cal. deeply rifled heavy weight barrel signed “H. E. LEMAN/LANCASTER, PA.” on the top flat. Weight 10½ lbs. Tiger maple stock with checkered wrist and brass mounts and patchbox. Lock plate stamped “HYSLOP & SON/NEW YORK”. Silver wrist and cheek rest inlays. Brass “LANCASTER” style side plate. Mid quality Leman probably intended for the Indian trade which made up most of Henry Leman’s business. Very good overall with the metal patina original and un-cleaned. Stock refinished long ago. Lock in working order and rifling dark but well defined with deep grooves and good lands. Original ramrod.
