Description:
EXTREMELY RARE AND SUPERB CASED PAIR OF COLT U.S. MARTIAL MODEL 1851 NAVY REVOLVERS CIRCA 1856. True pair of Model 1851’s as U.S. Army Ordnance inspected and as issued as a pair intended for Cavalry use in the double saddle holsters of the 1st and 2nd U.S. Cavalry Regiments which were armed with these revolvers. Serial numbered in the 52,5xx range and only 26 numbers apart. As shipped from Springfield Armory where they were selected from a Colt shipping crate and certainly placed in the Martial double casing they remain in to this day and intended for an Army Officer of notable rank. Both revolvers are in superb condition having all matching serial numbers and nearly all the original blue finish and case hardening colors. Cylinders still retain 95% original blue and 100% of their crisp un-worn cylinder scenes and no drag lines between the cylinder stops. Each revolver has all the original cylinder safety pins. Grips on both very near mint with all the original finish and perfect Army Ordnance Inspector’s cartouches. Mellow brass straps also showing no wear. Screws excellent with most of their blue finish. All nipples with nearly all their blue in near mint condition. Both bores in near mint condition with their original polish. Both in perfect working order. Original Armory military case (almost certainly Springfield Armory) original blue velvet lining and correctly made with retaining blocks only without provision for a flask or loading tools for Cavalry use with skin cartridge packets which included the caps) as the method of loading. The finest pair of U.S. Army Martial Model 1851 Navies we have seen. Price on request.
