Description:

CIVIL WAR Antique SHARPS New Model 1863 CARBINE

Cavalry Carbine from the War Between the States!

Here we present an antique Sharps New Model 1863 Rifle, made circa 1863 in Hartford, Connecticut. The most famous, single-shot percussion firearm used during the Civil War was the Sharps carbine, a .52 caliber breech-loading firearm invented and patented by Hartford native Christian Sharps. Over 100,000 Sharps rifles and carbines were purchased and used by the federal government during the American Civil War. These powerful, accurate and reliable rifles certainly saw history from a firsthand perspective during the conflicts leading up to the Civil War, the war itself, and beyond on the frontier.

The top of this carbine’s barrel is marked “SHARPS RIFLE/MANUFG. CO./HARTFORD, CONN.” and “NEW MODEL 1863”. The right side of the frame is marked “C. SHARPS’ PAT/OCT. 5TH 1853” and “R.S. LAWRENCE’ PAT/APRIL 12TH 1859”. The left side of the frame is marked “SHARPS’ PAT/SEPT 12TH 1846”.

The overall condition is good. The iron parts have a gray-brown patina. The markings are legible. The butt stock remains firm but there is a long, thin crack on the right side of the forearm that appears old. The bore is in good shape with some scattered roughness. The action is excellent.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 22 inches.

Caliber: .52 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
