ONE OF THE MOST DISTINCTIVE AND ATTRACTIVE OF THE "BOYS' RIFLES" OF THE EARLY 1900s IS THIS SAVAGE MODEL 1905 .22 SHORT, LONG & LONG RIFLE SINGLE SHOT BOLT ACTION WITH PERCH BELLY STOCK AND SWISS BUTT PLATE! These just rarely seem to show up and when they do they are usually in terrible condition. This is a very early serial number 2XXX. Numbers are known to go as high as the 30XXX range. Production went from 1905 and ceased for World War I. No doubt this one was made inn the first year or two of production. This is a particularly fine example. The stock shows only very light handling, has no cracks (!) and has tight wood to metal fit. The Swiss butt plate has never been cleaned and shows the attractive very aged blue to brown patina that takes decades to form when left alone. The 22" barrel retains fine blue with minor light brown mixing. All markings are sharp and clear. It also retains the "wheel adjustable" rear sight that is marked "SAVAGE No.21 PAT. APPLIED FOR." The simple dovetailed blade front sight has been changed out to a globe sight that will accept apertures. This model sports a curved "Hawken-style" trigger guard. Action is tight and the bore is surprisingly good showing some scattered frost only.
