Description:
General Specs: Savage, Year 1997, .300 Sav, 7lbs 10oz
Serial Number: AS0662

The Savage Model 1895 rifle was the first production lever rifle in America that was developed as a hammerless design with a superior, stronger action than those of Winchester or Marlin, the other big lever gun makers of the day.  The Model 1899 succeeded the Model 1895 with several improvements and was capable of shooting the spire point bullets known to be for bolt rifles only due to its unique rotary magazine.  About 1920 the Model name was shortened to Model 99 and there were many variations and cartridges available.  The Savage M99 receiver was machined from a solid billet of steel and was by far the strongest design of all the lever action rifles produced.  In production for over 100 years (discontinued in 1998) and offered in more calibers than any other maker, the Savage 99 was the finest American lever rifle ever produced.  This particular rifle is the CENTENNIAL EDITION, MADE IN 1996 AND 1997 ONLY AND PRODUCTION LIMITED TO 1000 GUNS.  The guns were sold with a very nicely made walnut display case, fully engraved receivers with a gold mountain lion on the right side and a gold inlaid elk on the left side.  The later Savage M99 guns had a detachable magazine and a top tang safety, along with the traditional cocking indicator on the top of the action.  These rifles are beautifully finished rifles in the .300 Savage caliber, capable of propelling a 150 grain bullet at 2740 fps, a round that is very close ballistically to the .308 Winchester and an excellent hunting round for North American big game.  We have all the accessories and even the shipping box for this gun.  They are rarely seen for sale any longer, and whether you choose to own the gun for collecting purposes or intend to take a fine whitetail or mule deer with the gun, it will only get more valuable in time as they are no longer being made and will always remain an American icon in the shooting and collecting world of firearms.  Thanks for looking!
