This National Postal Meter .30 Cal was mfg abt 11/43, 2nd Bloc.I use by R.C.Larson & his 2nd Edition "M-1 Carbine, Harrison's
& Craig Riesch's 7th Edition for my references.. According to R. C. Larson "These NPM are one of the highest quality carbines even though they only made
4 of their own companent parts". They relied upon their quality sub-contractors to supply the other parts. According to Larson many of the component parts were not always in sinc with the serial number of the receiver. I make every attempt to accurately inventory the component parts according to the reference info that
I have available at the time. It was obtained from an estate and a former collector. The sling, oiler and magazine are for presentation onlr and not included.
This NPM is to me a very good representation of an accurate M-1 carbine for it's time.
The following component parts are inventoried to this NPM;
Receiver - T1 w/narrow tang, Spring hole tube, T1 retaining lug, square mill cut, long handguard lip, Rear Sight T1 - Flip w/"s" on the Lft and 'RN" on the right,
Barrel - Marlin w/proof mark "M", Front Sight - T2 w/"N", Long Barrel Shirt, Bolt - Flat T2 w/"N", Firing Pin - T2 w/"NN", Extractor T3 w/"N", Ejector - T1, Trig Hsg -
T2 w/"N9", Trigger - T2 w/"SN", Sear - T1 w/"LN", Hammer - T3 w/"HN", Safety - T3 w/"SN", Mag Catch - T2 w/"SN", Oper Slide - T2 w/"N8", PN "UM", Stock -
Oval cut High Wood w/"NPM"/"EJA" Cartouche, Sling Well w/"Trimble/TM", Handguard - T2 w/2 holes "TN", Recoil Plate - T3 w/"TN", Recoill Plate Screw -T2,
Barrel Band - T2 w/Wire Swivel (Unmarked), . Bore measure "1" w/mirror and distinct twist.
I would rate this NPM as an NRA Very Good to Excellent.
