Description:
Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Model 1911 Carbine, or more commonly known as the Model K11, chambered in 7.5x55mm Swiss GP11 cartridge. Swiss Lt. Col. Eduard Rubin developed the first successful small-caliber copper-jacketed bullets that could withstand velocities higher than were normal in the 1880s. These small bore black powder cartridges developed into the Swiss GP88 (Gewehrpatrone 1888) and were originally designed for the Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Model of 1889 Infantry Rifle. The inherent weaknesses of the 1889-pattern Schmidt action were recognized after experience with the newly developed "smokeless" 1890-pattern cartridge (GP90). This lead to the development of an improved, stronger action known as the Swiss Model of 1896 Infantry Rifle. In 1911 further improvements in ammunition and simplifications in production lead to the Model of 1911 chambered for the new GP11 cartridge. Adopted concurrently with the 1911-pattern infantry rifle, the Swiss K11 was developed to replace both the then current short rifle and cavalry carbine. This Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Model K11 is in very good condition. The rifle is all matching with a smooth action and a bright bore featuring sharp, visible rifling. The stock is original with crisp markings and only handling marks, typical of military rifles. This rifle come with an original issued military sling.
