Approximately .75 caliber. This is a massive gun that stands 61.5" long and weighs approximately 35 lbs. Guns like this are a mix between a rifle and a cannon. There is a long folding spike on the bottom of this gun that would be put into some sort of mount to steady it for firing. Another interesting feature is the “pistol grip" trigger guard. The breech block is completely removable. The serial number of the gun is 29 and the block is 28. Obviously, this is a nice sharp gun with a light brown patina. I believe these were finished in white and this has just natural untouched age to the metal. Wood is sharp as well with a large cartouche on the right side of the stock. Various inspector’s marks are throughout the gun. It is dated 1866. In the December 2017 issue of Man at Arms, one of these guns is featured in their center spread gun of the month called the “Roll of Honor." SOLD Antique: Yes |
