Description:
Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are sure proud to offer this fine example of the "other" lever action rifle of the 1880's, the Whitney Kennedy. Designed by Andrew Burgess, this stout rifle held a dear place in our history, sometimes seen in period photographs with their proud owners. This one features the early serpentine lever, which really helped set it apart from Marlin and Winchester. It is chambered in the potent 45-60, and has the standard 28 inch octagonal barrel. Other differences were that it is about the only gun with 1/2 inch sight dovetails, and can only be loaded with the action open. What makes this particular rifle so special is the condition. She looks great for being over 130 years old. The nicely figured wood is great, save for a few tight cracks in the forend, and slight loss to the toe of the stock. The steel, all drifted to a pleasant patina, is also good. The stampings are very sharp and clear for this era. The bore has plenty of shine and very distinct rifling. The action is smooth and tight, works as designed, including the half cock safety. There has likely been some varnish added, but that was normal after a wet hunt. The serial number is stamped on the stock and inside the butt plate, and all 5 cleaning rod segments are present. This is clearly the best Whit-Ken we have ever fielded. Let's look at value. There is an old timer in this area that brings one to gun shows in much worse condition. His price: 7000 dollars. I will list this one for much less. This is the only large frame version at this site other than the megadollar engraved offering. Remember, it ships right to your door. If you have been looking for the right Whitney Kennedy, but want the added clout of high condition, then look no further.
