Joseph Bunney set up shop in about 1765 in Birmingham, England, making fine flintlock weapons. His business lasted through the early years of the 1800s until about 1814. It is of interest to note that Joseph Bunney, in addition to being a well-known gun maker, also had his silver hallmark registered with the Birmingham Assay Office in 1773. Even though his shop was located in Birmingham, he marked all of his guns “London”. One of Joseph Bunney’s more famous guns was the “Duck’s Foot” flintlock pistol which had four barrels shaped like a duck’s foot and was designed to fire all four barrels at the same time in order to avert a rioting mob or possibly a mutiny aboard a ship! This nice flintlock features engraving on the frame. The left side of the frame is marked “BUNNEY” in a banner, and the right side is marked “LONDON”. Cane style of grip. There are Birmingham proofs on the underside. The overall condition is good+. The action is strong. The bore is in good shape for its age. The right frame reads “LONDON” while the left says “BUNNEY”. All markings are legible, including the panoply of arms that’s engraved on the bottom of the trigger guard. The frizzen holds the flint securely in place. A great piece from the last half of the 18th Century, and certainly something that might have been carried by someone in the Colonies! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 1-5/8 inches. Caliber: .45 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
