Payment Types Accepted: M/C, VISA, American Express and Discover Description: " Brown Bess Pattern 1777 Short Land Flintlock musket. Used by the Shelburne militia, Nova Scotia, Canada. The overall length is approximately 57½". The approximately 42" round .76 caliber barrel has a fair smooth bore. The smooth bright barrel with brown staining has the usual two London proof marks. The lock, cock, and frizzen have a smooth brown patina. The lock is marked “Tower" on the tail, has an engraved crown over “GR" in the center, and a horizontal crown/ broad arrow to the right. The brass butt plate, trigger guard, side plate, nose cap, and four ramrod pipes are fine. The stock is very good with no cracks or chips and has a small repair to the rear of the barrel tang. The left side of the butt is heavily stamped “Shelburne" with a “M" over a “Y" below. The Shelburne militia was founded in 1753 and served into the mid-19th century. This Pattern 1777 Short Land Brown Bess musket was manufactured circa 1777 to 1782. Early Revolutionary War era Brown Bess muskets, such as this one, are very scarce. Don’t miss it!
