British Pattern 1842 Sergeant’s Type Musket with Locking Action. Overall length is approximately 46". The 30¼" round .75 caliber barrel has an excellent bright smooth bore. The barrel retains approximately 98% original brown finish. It has three London commercial proofs. The lock and percussion hammer have decorative engraving. The lock is marked “RI" (Royal) manufactory Enfield" in script letters. The hammer lock sits at the tail of the lock. It slides forward to engage a notch in the hammer when it is resting on the cone. The lock and hammer are excellent with some original colors. The stock is excellent with sharp edges and no chips or cracks. The brass furniture has an even aged patina. The swivels and ramrod are present. There is an old collection tag on the trigger guard that reads “Weller/ collection/ Princeton, N.J./ 479". The action functions correctly. This is a wonderful example of an officer’s/ sergeant’s type Pattern 1842 musket. That was offered for private purchase.
