U.S. Model 1842 Percussion Musket. This musket has been shortened from its original length. The overall length is approximately 49½”. The 34” round .69 caliber barrel has a good smooth bore. All metal has been cleaned bright. The barrel has the “VP”/ eagle proof marks, and the tang is dated “1852”. The only lock marking is “Spring/ Field/ 1844” at the tail. The butt plate tang is marked “U.S.”. The shortened stock is good with a strong “WAT” cartouche. The swivels and ramrod are present. The action functions correctly. This is an interesting shortened Model 1842 Springfield percussion musket… reasonably price so it can be used.
