Berdan Sharpshooters Sharps 1859 musket. Made in 1860s during the Civil War. Has a 30” .52 caliber barrel. The metal has been cleaned and has a gray patina with light pitting. There is a very light cartouche on the right-hand side. These guns are distinguished by their double triggers. This gun is equipped with them and they work perfectly. These guns were issued to the 1st and 2nd U.S. Sharp Shooters, commanded by Hiram Berdan. These units selected men with superior shooting skills. Berdan chose the Sharps rifle with double triggers. These units saw extensive service in all the major Civil War battles, including Gettysburg. Very fine historical Sharps Berdan rifle!
