This is a late model pistol with automatic extractor, that retains 90-95% of the original silver plate finish, with most of the loss occurring on the domed buttcap. The metal is profusely engraved with an intricate grapevine pattern that has the original owner’s name in a riband on the left side of the frame: “GEO. BAKER JUNR." About 50-60% of the original bright fire blue remains on the engraved hammer, extractor, rear sight, and Beach-style front sight. The opener tab has traces of original blue remaining, but is otherwise smooth pewter gray. No retailer markings are present, but a small Birmingham proof is present on the underside of the barrel. The checkered, contoured horn grip has sharp checkering points, a few scattered handling marks, and a short scrack at the thumb-web on the right side. The action lock-up is still tight, without any lateral play, and the pistol is housed in a period, burled walnut case with a worn, but intact maroon baize lining. Included is a cleaning rod and bore brushes, but no retailer label is present. This stunning pistol is the very gun pictured and described on pg. 174 and 175 of “Tranter Cartridge Firearms" by Black, Guerin & Michaud; (2007), and would make a nice addition to any collection of Tranter handguns.
