Description:
This is a Holland & Holland Mauser action rifle in .240 Apex with scope and fitted oak & canvas case. The barrel is fitted with a raised blade front sight with a hinged cover and a 2-leaf rear sight set up for 50 and 200 yards, the top of the barrel is marked "HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.", the top of the chamber "HOLLAND'S/.240 BORE "APEX" SUPER EXPRESS RIFLE", with London/Nitro proofs on the left side of the chamber. Receiver marked CORDITE 34-100 MAX. The bolt marked 925, with a set of single claw bases mounted on the left side for an ALDIS BROTHERS – BIRMINGHAM scope with the rear ring engraved HOLLAND & HOLLAND 925. Trigger guard stamped 925. Checkered fine walnut pistol grip stock, with sling eyes, a lovely casehardened spring-loaded grip cap with replaceable bead front sight enclosed. Developed in the 1920s, the .240 Apex, also known as the 240 Holland & Holland Magnum and 240 Magnum Rimless, was intended for use against deer and light African game. .240 Apex
