Description:
The Winchester Model 88 was developed and introduced in 1955. It was a modern lever design with no visible hammer, rotating lever operated bolt and side ejecting, allowing scope mounting and a 4 shot detachable box magazine. In 1964 many models of Winchester were redesigned to lower cost of manufacture. The Model 88 was included and suffered a degradation in the quality of walnut used in the stocks and impressed checkering. The Model 88 was discontinued in 1973.
