Description:
Winchester Model 1892 .44WCF (.44-40) lever action rifle, dated to 1911. This rifle features the true classic 1892 lever action mechanism, chambered in the rare and very desirable .44 WCF, otherwise known as .44-40, one of the original "cowboy cartridges". This particular rifle features an octagonal barrel with a full length magazine tube, with smooth walnut furniture and what was once a blued finish. The rifle is in great working order with a very smooth and tight action, as well as fully function trigger and hammer mechanisms. The bore still has a mostly shiny surface with some shallow pitting, however the right side of the bore has some darker areas, most likely from having moisture in the barrel and laying on its right side for a period of time. Most of the finish has worn off, however no evidence of severe rust pitting is present externally. An interesting note is that the tang underneath the lever has several notches cut into it, as does the magazine tube. These notches traditionally indicate either gunfights that were won, or animals successfully hunted with the rifle. If this rifle could talk, it would be very interesting! Please refer to the photos prior to purchase. This rifle is perhaps the most desireable configuration of the classic 1892 Winchester, in a very desirable chambering. Don't miss out! C&R OK.
