Description:
This Richardson & Overman Model Gallager's Patent Carbine is a lever activated hinged barrel single shot percussion fired rifle in .50 Cal. It has a 22 1/4 inch barrel with a front and middle iron sight. The butt is a smooth grip walnut straight stock. It has an exposed hammer and left side slide bar with sling ring. Manufactured 1861-1865 this Civil War era rifle was used extensively by the United States Army Union Troops. A total of 17,782 were sold to the Army with only 23,000 produced. It was loaded from the rear with brass cases which contained the projectile and the propellant. .50 Cal.
