Description:
***SOLD*** Antique Kentucky Rifle, also know as the Pennsylvania Rifle, signed by Frederick Stover, and maker attributed to York County, PA. This rifle is a wonderful example of the masterful craftsmanship and custom flair of the rifles of old, and it's maker, F. Stover, is a known maker, his rifles regarded as somewhat rare. The rifle remains in superb overall condition considering its age, with a completely intact stock with no large cracks or splits, a patina covering the metal components with very little serious corrosion, and beautiful brass escutcheons, engraving and inlays, and a decorative yet functional patchbox, complete with what look to be very old patches. A few of the barrel wedges appear to be missing, however the barrel is still held in place, and the ramrod very well could be an original. The lock looks to have originally been a flintlock, however was converted to a percussion cap lock at some point, the evidence of which can still be seen on the lock. The lock operates in both half and full cock, the firing trigger works, however the set trigger mechanism doesn't operate quite properly. The bore still has clear rifling with a suprising lack of heavy rust, however it is not bright and shiny, which is to be expected. This rifle is a very desirable and beautiful example of the American Kentucky Rifle, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Please refer to the photos prior to purchase. No FFL required, proof of age required.
