Description:
SKB-30 - - SKB Prototype Game Gun, 12 gauge, 26” double barrel (one each improved cylinder and improved modified choke), with single selective trigger, extractors, floor plate, and top lever. Barrels, floor plate, top lever, trigger guard, and forearm iron are blued. The action body, trigger plate, and upper tang are case hardened. Stocks are checkered walnut with a beaver tail forearm with pistol grip buttstock. Buttstock has 14 ½” L.O.P. over factory black checkered buttplate. Nicer than production style engraving. Notice the lightweight partial lower rib treatment. This feature was not employed in production years. The traditional full lower rib was used. Bluing and case color are about 99%. The wood finish shows some losses from storage. The original carton shows normal handling and storage wear after 40-50 years of use. Tatters and losses on the lid, inside and out, though the individual components are in good shape. An ancient piece of tape was placed over the end label. There are still Japanese characters on the tape. Excellent bores, screws, and is mechanically sound..
This gun originally came from a retired Navy Officier that was in charge of the shooting ranges on base in Japan during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. He was a frequent visitor of the various gun manufacturing industries in Japan and was given this gun during a visit to the Sabaka group in Japan, the makers of SKB guns. I purchased this several years ago from a FFL down South when I collected SKB SxS shotguns and have since sold most all of them and this one remains, the best for last! This is the information I was given from the FFL that the family sold the guns to. I never shot the gun or took it apart as it was just a part of a vast collection I once had of SKB shotguns. I have not researched this any further since the SABAKA group has dissolved and cannot guarantee the story. It sounded all correct when I talked to the ffl and that’s why I purchased it several, several years ago. Look at the pictures. Only markings on the gun are the s/n, no manufacturer, no proofs.
