No markings except for a tiny 44 stamp on both sides of the frame. 44Colt uses a heal type, outside lubricated, bullet as used in the Civil War .44 c/b conversions. See photo of original UMC 44 Colt cartridge. Serial # 2x stamp under barrel. Not a Spanish copy. All internal parts hand shaped with very loose tolerances, identical to original Colt parts. I replaced the cylinder bolt stop with an original Colt bolt which operates perfectly. (original bolt included). Due to considerable wear I have added two washers ahead of cylinder to move ratchet back close to the hand in order to facilitate total rotation of the cylinder. Cowboy Colt 44's with inside lubricated bullets will not work in this gun. Gun has original shell bone grips with period filler material to fit inside of frame. Old period nickel finish over original is about 85% and shows well. Period history would show use in the Mexican/Indian Wars along with early US conflicts at the border. Colts were too expensive and these worked. SOLD Antique: Yes |
