1864 US Colt Special model 1861 US Government Contract .58 caliber rifled musket. Rifle DOES NOT come with bayonet, I will get updated cover photo posted soon. Wholesale pricing for this gun in very good condition.
Walnut stock, 40" barrel, an attractive, even, deep brown attic patina. Rifled Musket's lockplate reads: "US Colt's PT. F. A. MFG Co. Hartford CT," and "1864." Barrel shank stamped with "P," "V," and eagle head, and dated "1864." Small "H" stamped on tang. Top of buttplate stamped: "US."
Colt produced these muskets to fulfill a US Govt. contract during the Civil War years 1861-1865.
Condition - Good, very good bore, with good rifling and minor surface oxidation. Very good smooth metal surfaces show dark brown patina, clear markings, some surface oxidation marks, no rust, no pitting. Varnished stock shows some handling wear, scratches and small dents, good condition for age and use. Smooth, crisp action, Mechanically excellent.
Springfield Armory was the primary supplier of long arms, but due to production limitations the government entered into contracts with numerous arms contractors that could build these rifles to specs. Colt is among if not the best and highest quality of these Model 1961 Rifled Musket contractors.
