Description:
MODEL 1895 .40-65 OCTAGON RIFLE, #138XXX, MADE 1896. These big bore Marlins have become very difficult to find. This is a fine early antique example that retains good lightly aged blue on the barrel and magazine. The barrel has the original buckhorn and Rocky Mountain blade front sights. All markings on the barrel and upper tang are excellent as is the "Marlin Safety" marking on the top of the receiver. The receiver case colors have aged to silver/gray with some very light/aged case color on the bolt. The loading gate retains good blue. Generally fine+ stock and forend with one really tiny chip at the upper tang/receiver juncture on the right side that is hardly noticeable. Tight action, excellent bore with a truly fine, uncleaned appearance.
