Here we present a Reising Standard Model .22 Long Rifle Rimfire Semi-Automatic Pistol, made circa 1923 in Hartford, Connecticut. Eugene Reising started his gunmaking career working as John Moses Browning’s assistant on the project that eventually produced the Colt Model 1911. Reising was an expert target shooter and his first significant solo project was this semi-auto .22 target pistol. Although the Reising pistol fit the bill for target shooting and was well-made, stiff competition with the Colt Woodsman pistol, resulted in low production. He was able to put it into limited production between 1921 and 1924. A total of just 3,000 pistols were made, with serial numbers starting at 1000, so that this would have been made close to the end of the production run.
The overall condition is fine. Nice original blue finish. The action is robust all around. The bore is bright in fine shape. Both grips have retained sharp checkering and are firm. A very nice piece to collect and display!
