Description:
Caliber 44 RF. Gun was returned after 1906 to Winchester for a rebuild. Has the WP marking at the breech. Very interesting. Barrel was replaced and it has the 44RF marking and 2-line barrel address. Different than anything I have encountered. Quite an attractive gun. It has most all the vivid blue on the barrel and the mag tube. Brass receiver is untouched and has turned a deep patina. An inscription is engraved on the left side receiver plate "Rev. R.H. Nassau Benita West Africa July 16, 1869".  According to Wikipedia, Robert Hamill Nassau was an American Presbyterian missionary who spent forty years in Africa. He returned to the United States in 1906 and settled in Florida. His papers are kept as part of the Burke Library Archives, held at the Columbia University Libraries, New York.
I have never seen another 66 that was re-barreled and redone at the factory. Just a great looking gun with an interesting history.
