"All metal has an even brown patina. The wood is fair with missing areas around the lock, with an added screw on the bottom of the forend, and the dents and dings expected of a cavalry carbine. While the soldier who carried this carbine didn’t take very good care of the exterior, he maintained the bore. It has strong rifling and is bright. The action functions correctly and the magazine tube is very good. If only we could know the story of this carbine’s Civil War and possible Indian War use! This is a good example of a gun that went there and did that - if we only knew.
