Payment Types Accepted: Postal Money Order, Personal Check, Cashiers Check, Bank Money Order Description: This Winchester 1866 carbine was manufactured in 1870 and subsequently retailer period engraved and nickel plated on all parts except for the barrel and magazine tube. The engraving patterns are similar to "Unique Trio of Winchester 1866 Carbines" (47830, 48505, and 49157) on pages 315-320 in "Armsand Armor Annual Volume One" by Robert Held. Those carbines were also manufactured in 1870 and were purchased in Santiago, Chile, nearly a century later in 1968 and were originally in two-tier case with a St. Lousi retailer label. Held notes that all three were done by different hands but around the same time. This carbine was also clearly from a different hand. The sides of the receiver featured floral scroll and floral patterns with scallop bordering, there are simple scroll and line designs on top of the receiver and wedges of floral scroll on the upper and lower tang, underside of the receiver, on the bottom of the cartridge elevator, buttplate tang and on each side of the barrel bands. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/patent dates and the serial number is on the lower tang. This carbine is in exceptional condition with around 95% original retailer applied nickel finish on the frame. The barrel and magazine tube retain nearly 40% original blue drifting. The original 3 piece cleaning rod is included in this sale however not pictured because of the limited photographs I can add. Mechanically excellent. More photographs are available upon request. This is a beautiful example of an engraved Winchester 1866! Shipping will depend on the service and insurance amount the buyer chooses. Thank You! Sold SOLD Antique: Yes |
